In our 4th year since re-forming, Marianas Chapter continues to invest in STEM educational initiatives with K-12 STEM Grants and College Scholarships.
In 2011, the Chapter raised the ante and doubled the number of STEM Grants provided to local K-12 teachers. Eight grants awarded at $1,000 each were presented directly to teachers invigorating local science, engineering and technology programs in classrooms across the island. To say thanks and share their successes with AFCEA sponsors, the teachers who were awarded grants in 2010 shared their results in presentations which were shown in the vendor area during our April 2011 TechNet. Michie Ana Limitiaco Sasai, a graduating John F. Kennedy High School Senior, was selected this year to receive a $1,000 scholarship. Michie was selected based on her outstanding 4.35 on a 4.0 scale and her leadership role in the standup of a Robotics Lab at her school. Michie is now a Freshman at the University of Portland where she is studying Biology and Engineering. Additionally this year, the chapter established and awarded its first scholarship to a Freshman enrolled in the University of Guam ROTC program. MS2 Andrea David Araullo was awarded a $1,000 scholarship based on her standing as #1 of 75 Freshman Cadets and her outstanding resume of public service. MS2 Araullo is working towards a degree in nursing in addition to her commission. Contact: Cope Leuenberger or Sharon Cassidy E-mail: education@afcea-marianas.org |
